Picking New Hobbies

Image
"My hobby is to pick new hobbies" My creative brain requires rewiring every now and then. In simple words, I like to learn new things, read new topics, build habits...I am always on my toes striving to be a better man, a kinder person who does good deeds. Ah! a tough goal, I know! But, I'll keep at it.  While we were doing our M.Des, our profs gave us a lot of different materials, assignments, theories, designing practices to shape our brain to become better in the creative and research process so that we could think differently, do something unique, build new designs...and more. But, it's not since the M.Des, my brain has been trained to be creative ever since my primary school, DAV where I learnt new art techniques from my drawing and clay modelling teachers. Actually, I believe that I was born as a creative soul thus leading me to like the art classes. I have always been good at drawing since childhood. Sadly, my explorations lie mainly in the creative side of min...

Life Without Social Media - Digital Detox

Image
This year, I completed my second-longest stint with a deactivated Facebook account, a complete 3.5 years while I write this post in July 2020.  I have had my Facebook account since December 2009 which apparently was created by my college friend Alok who couldn't see me as the only person without a Facebook account in a batch of 60 engineers :D. One day while we were sitting in the computer lab, Alok scraped my education details from LinkedIn and created a Facebook account with my name, and started adding my school mates too. For a complete month of December, Alok acted as Chetan on Facebook until I accepted to take over the account and maintain it. I had to give in before he did anything more in the name of Chetan :D though Alok was my best buddy so he wouldn't have done something funny with my account yet to be square, I took over the account. He had kept a geeky password 'Efficiency' to start with. From January to February 2010, I added all my mechanical engineering...

Stranger Friends: Chapter II

This story is in continuation of  Stranger Friends . If you haven't read that, I would recommend reading that first before reading this second part. Bangalore wasn't new anymore. I had obvious friends in the office as well as in Uniworld, my guesthouse. But, there was one unique friend, a stranger friend in Uniworld, the housekeeper! I had been talking to him about random things around me in the city, office, life, and whatnot. Strange but, true; I would talk to him generally during weekend mornings. After completing my stint of four months in Infosys' Bangalore Campus, I had taken a transfer to their Jaipur DC. My transfer is another interesting story highlighting the politics in the corporate world of Infosys; will write an article separately on that. On my last day in Bangalore, I had my bags packed and kept them on the floor near the room's door. The housekeeper did all the cleaning chores and while he was leaving the room, I looked at him. "Sir, ja rahe h...

Stranger Friends

Ever wondered what a friend really means? I have always had a few people whom I have called friends, maybe 4 or 5 friends in a total of two and a half decades! But as I grew up, the definition of friends evolved. The 4-5 people in my life whom I called friends qualified to be called as best friends which gave room for a few more people to be called as friends :) So, this gave me a diplomatic excuse for not calling everyone a friend. Every classmate then became a friend while a few important personalities in my life enjoyed the privilege to be on my best friends list. No one cared by the way...Lol! But, yes, I have always had a small circle. Remember, I mentioned introversion in my previous post? Friends from personal life and friends on virtual Facebook life were the same or less. But, somehow, IIT and the time changed me. My circle of friends became bigger while the circle of best friends accommodated a few (2-3) more friends. It's the game of hierarchy actually, Stranger > A...

When Is Your Birthday, Chetan?

This is an update to the previous post:  Purpose Of Life I really don't understand the concept of people celebrating their own birthdays though I've got really no problem with that and why would I have a problem either? I have not done anything remarkable after being born. Anyway, I believe, birthdays are always special for the parents and the people around who love the person who was born on the day. Birthdays mark the day of a child entering in the parents' world. It's the day for them to cherish, it marks the anniversary of their love for each other and the offspring which brought the contentment in their lives. So, I feel extremely odd when people around me ask for my birth-date so they could wish me on the day; I don't know how to react when people wish me with 'happy birthday' except for saying 'thank you.' I've got few relatives, few former colleagues of my mom, a few neighbours (old and new) and as I mentioned earlier: 3-4 frien...

The Act Of Kindness

An old post from the diary, Today Sravani and Kavita, two of my best friends in class gave a surprise visit to my hostel. So, we decided to go for a bicycle trip from Boys' Hostel to the Girls' Hostel and started to discuss our project's progress. And as we started to paddle, the street lights went off probably due to some electricity issue. On the way, down the slope, just before the hospital, I noticed a boy walking in the middle of the road where cars were dangerously passing with just a little distance from his sides. He was holding his cellphone with flash pointing onto the road. I found it really strange. I passed by his side while observing closely. He was looking on the road with the flashlight. But what caught my attention was that he was not walking straight, little left then little right but still in the middle of the road. I stopped. "What happened?" Sravani asked. "Why he is walking in the middle of the road?" I said ...

Looking Back To School Life

Image
[Wrote this article for a school friend, Siddharth; and tried my hands on the so-called 'modern articles!' ] School life is something every one of us can relate to... 1) We become part of the cattle race without knowing where it is leading to. and later realize... 2) We dream something... and something else happens... 3) Lessons and formulas learned hardly turn out to be useful. 4) We do get influenced by seniors who tell us what is right and what is... 5) We learn multi-tasking in the school itself. 6) We get cheerful about every small thing. 7)  And we do get disappointed as well. 8)  Sharing lunch with friends become a part of life. even when we grow up... 9) Friends are what we earn for a lifetime. and when we meet them after a long time... 10)  And when we become an alumnus of the very same school...

The Most Common Sight On Delhi Metro

Image
Travelling on Delhi Metro is always fun. Faces are sometimes familiar and sometimes strange but the sight inside the metro is always same. Students are into their smartphones with earplugs playing western pop and rock. Some stupids like me are always reading a book or a magazine and sometimes even end up writing, Phew! And office-goers, generally men are always reading a newspaper. But that's not what makes the Delhi Metro amazing. " The best part is that the single newspaper is read by all the men, in whose visible range the newspaper falls... "

Purpose Of Life

[Birthdays are always special. But, sometimes I just don't find birthdays so special, I feel as if I've not done my part to celebrate or be happy about something...This is the reason that only three or perhaps four(not more than that) of my friends know the date. Following are a few lines which depict my thoughts towards the life and birth. Happy Reading!] There's a reason for which you have taken Birth, Fulfil it, and make your living a Worth. Do something that world remembers You, And people say- he was the person I very well Knew. Those who are born Blessed, With gold and silver in their Chest, Must understand that everyone's not lucky to have their own Nest. Loosen your pockets and be Benevolent. Amnesty is the cause for which birthdays are Meant. Let your birthday be a reason for someone's Smile, Plant a tree or surprise a Child. Helping destitute is a noble Cause, I'm not asking you to set your moments of joy in a Pause, Kee...

A Poem For Sujoy

[Sujoy is one of my best friends from College. We are friends since the second day of college. Friendship started during our daily trip in Cab –from home to college and back to home from college. I am happy to admit that the Cab Life was the best time of my college though I travelled for only first yr in cab…We were seven friends together and enjoyed every bit of the journey. Sujoy is a great person to be with. There are people who are just amazing and always in jolly mood, call it ‘Mast’ ; Sujoy is one of them. I had written this poem while I was in Second Year, Fourth Sem to be particular. I could not stop laughing while writing and when completed it, I just posted it on his FB wall (I existed on FB at that time but not anymore-I believe FB was never meant for me); that too on his Birthday. He was happy and so was I. So, here’s it- Sujoy. Happy Reading! ] Sujoy Sujoy brings Joy, PSP is one of his Toys. Spreads happiness with his Face, He listen songs with low Bass...
