Taking Music To The Next Level

Image
As it can be figured from my previous posts that I have been learning to play the ukulele and guitar for quite some time now.  I had started learning guitar in August 2020 while I had started learning the ukulele in September 2019. The journey has been nothing but amazing and rewarding. While I was sure of myself learning the instruments but what I had misjudged about myself is the capability to learn them in a limited time. I was able to learn ukulele in less than 9 months and guitar in even lesser than 3 months. The rest of the period went into becoming just the better version of myself. Just like any other skill, learning instruments is also about practice. As of today, I can definitely count myself in the intermediate category of players. I can play any strumming pattern, know all the chords, and can play them without having to look at the fretboard, can play all the barre chords of the guitar without hurting fingers, and sometimes can find chords of some of the songs. Picking New Hobbies

Image
"My hobby is to pick new hobbies" My creative brain requires rewiring every now and then. In simple words, I like to learn new things, read new topics, build habits...I am always on my toes striving to be a better man, a kinder person who does good deeds. Ah! a tough goal, I know! But, I'll keep at it.  While we were doing our M.Des, our profs gave us a lot of different materials, assignments, theories, designing practices to shape our brain to become better in the creative and research process so that we could think differently, do something unique, build new designs...and more. But, it's not since the M.Des, my brain has been trained to be creative ever since my primary school, DAV where I learnt new art techniques from my drawing and clay modelling teachers. Actually, I believe that I was born as a creative soul thus leading me to like the art classes. I have always been good at drawing since childhood. Sadly, my explorations lie mainly in the creative side of min...

My Portrait Sketches - 2017

Image
These days, I am learning to do portrait sketching...Actually, I already know how portrait sketching is done but I have simply forgotten the tricks as I am doing it after almost 15 years. So, I am picking up new tricks and styles while I am scribbling my pencils and pens on paper. I have messed up with a lot of faces while have successfully created a few. In fact, the primary motto of going away from Facebook 'again' (shall post the article on 1st Jan'18) was to concentrate on things that make me happy. So, here are my sketches of 2017 in reverse chrono order. Actually, I am not adding all the sketches, the ones I messed up shall not get public :) Shall keep updating this post till 31st Dec'17. Tools: Graphite pencils, Colour pencils, Crayons, Sketch-pens, and Ball-point pens.

The Tale Of Melon City - Storyboard

Image
Another blast from the past from 2013. Did this for younger brother for his English lit assignment in school. The poem - The Tale of Melon City by Vikram Seth is one of the chapters assigned in CBSE's Class 11th curriculum. Another comic strip which I did for my brother-  Lord Ullin's Daughter

Boring Client Calls

Image
Dealing directly with clients is fun :D But, sometimes when things get boring and redundant every week, one loses the excitement :( So, during one such call with a client, I started sketching a car though I sketch a lot of things these days. Currently, I am trying to make myself better with women portraits :D and human illustrations. Anyway, so during this call, I sketched with pen and coloured it with the only colouring tool available at my desk, a board marker. This car is my favourite sketch that I did at Infy Bangalore.

What Kejriwal Did In 49 Days!

Image
Mr. Arvind Kejriwal did a lot for our Delhi. One of the achievements of him and his party (actually our party!) was being able to remove the beacons from the VIP's vehicles. Here's a small sketch to support him and his fighting spirit.

What Does My Food Preference Have To Do With Religion?

Image
Food is healthy, whether you eat it or talk about it. While returning from IIT Bombay, on my journey to Delhi on August-Kranti Rajdhani, an incident happened when food actuated a political discussion. The man in his 40s seated opposite to me asked what a Jain-platter was pointing towards my plate which happened to be Jain. [I figured out the availability of Jain-platter on the train last year while on my way to Ahmedabad on Swarna-Jayanti Rajdhani when my fellow passenger ordered it. I went there for the NID interviews.] "It doesn't have onion!" I replied after swallowing. After a while when we were finished eating, he tried to crack a conversation again, "Now you also have got a reservation!" "Sorry?" I said keeping my book (a Paulo Coelho's...) aside as if I heard something wrong. "Jains have got reservation too," he said. "I'm not a Jain! I'm Hindu!" I modulated my voice. "Jains are also Hindus!...

IDC IIT Bombay Calls For Interview

Finally! A good result of 2014. Industrial Design Centre ( IDC ) of Indian Institute Of Technology Bombay (IIT B) has shortlisted me among the students called for Design Aptitude Test (DAT) and Portfolio presentation (Interview) for their Master of Design (M.Des) course. Phew! The results are a sense of relief after a series of unfavourable results post graduating. Well, it's not sort of an achievement because I've to go through some more tests and interview to get The seat. But receiving an interview call from the nation's most prestigious institute is a nice feeling in itself. I've been called for two disciplines viz., Visual Communication Design and Mobility & Vehicle Design. Don't know what they liked- my portfolio which included The Most Common Sight On Delhi Metro , my academic profile, my SOP (quite an exhaustive one) or my performance in preliminary CEED (Common Entrance Exam For Design) in which I had secured All India Rank 166...Doesn't mat...

The Most Common Sight On Delhi Metro

Image
Travelling on Delhi Metro is always fun. Faces are sometimes familiar and sometimes strange but the sight inside the metro is always same. Students are into their smartphones with earplugs playing western pop and rock. Some stupids like me are always reading a book or a magazine and sometimes even end up writing, Phew! And office-goers, generally men are always reading a newspaper. But that's not what makes the Delhi Metro amazing. " The best part is that the single newspaper is read by all the men, in whose visible range the newspaper falls... "

Football In Classroom

Image
Did this sketch when I was in class 12th during my coaching class and completed the shading part on Metro while coming back to home. I had sketched this on the back of my notebook using only Red Ball-Point Pen (no pencil or eraser involved). Travelling on Metro can be very productive sometimes. My all favourite sketches were executed in the classrooms. Chetan Playing Football
